SPECIFICATIONS FOR NORMAL WEIGHT
CONCRETE MASONARY UNITS

Normal Weight Concrete Masonary Units: Units shall be equal to JNW weries, as manufactured by A. Jandris & Sons, Inc., Gardner, MA or an approved substitute. Units shall comply with all requirements of the current issue of the following standards and with other requriements specified herein.

  1. Hollow & Solid Loadbearing Units: Shall compy with all provisions as ASTM C90-96a, Type I, Class I, Moisture Controlled Units.
  2. Compressive Strenghts: All units shall have a minimum compressive strenght on the net area of 1900 PSI when tested in accordance with ASTM C-140.
  3. Normal Weight Concrete Masonary Units: Sahll be composed of normal weight siliceous aggregates conforming to ASTM C-33.
  4. All Concrete masonary units (architectual, Standard & Backups) for this project shall be produced by one manufacturer.
  5. Bidders who desire to use other manufacturers shall submit samples and technical data to the architect for evaluation, inspection, and written approval prior to the bid date covering this section. If the products are approved, an addenda will be issued.
  6. Optional - Choose as Appropriate
    1. Expect as noted on the drawings, all unit faces exposed to view shall be scored as herein describes. Unit faces hidden from view need not be simarlarly scored, but may be unless sotherwise noted on the drawings.
    2. Units shall have one vertical square edge score 3/8" x 3/8" located in the center of the exposed face.
    3. Where a fire resistance rating is shown on the drawings, provide units meeting that requirement when rated in accordance withe Equivalent Thickness Method of the Building Officials Conference of America, Inc.
    4. Insulation: insters shall be installed in the cores of the blocks at teh block producer's plant, Korfil "U" shaped units or Icon Single face units as manufactured by the Concrete Block Insulating Systems, West Brookfield, MA. Inserts shall be properly installed to allow blocks to handled without danger of insert dislodgment.
    5. Units shall be manufactured with an intergal water repellant system (such as "Dry Block"). Units shall be manufactured by a qualified producer.
